Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT)
• The Technology department will be setting up a café style wireless network for those students who wish to utilize their own laptops or tablets for school work while in the District.
• This wireless network will be filtered but open for the student to simply come in and connect to it.
• BENEFITS of the BYOT program for the student. The student gets to use their own device that they are familiar with. The district will not lock down the device itself or touch it in any way, including support. The student will not have to rely on multiple devices to transfer work.
District Supplied Device
• This option will be for students whose family decides not to opt for BYOT and would like a device supplied by the district per the grade level of that student.
• This option is a laptop that is set up with District software and explicitly locked down to only work for educational purposes for the student’s career in their PASD journey. This is a key area where this option and BYOT differ.
• The student will not be able to add software of their own to the device and will be supported during its life span by the District Technology Department.
• The laptop will have Device Protection Plan coverage on it that will cover one unintentional (Accidental) damage incident per year.
» What is and is not covered is addressed in the
Technology Handbook Page 5.
• Following the one free unintentional incident each year, the District will charge a $50 deductible for the second, $75 for the third incident in anyone year.
• In the case of 4 or more incidents per year, the Parent or Guardian will be responsible for the full repair or replacement upon the 4th incident.
• General repair and support incidents will be handled by the technology staff.
• At the end of the device’s lifespan, the laptop will be turned back into the District
• Technology Insurance Fee: This option carries an annual technology charge per year per device of $50. Family Cap of $150 per year for multiple children. Please refer to the
technology handbook for more details.
