Dear PASD Families and Staff,

The PASD Board of School Directors voted on several important decisions regarding a move to full virtual instruction for all students on November 23rd and a change in leadership for Barkley Elementary and the Early Learning Center:

All Phoenixville Area Schools move to full virtual – conferences and instruction – beginning Monday, November 23, 2020 and November 30, 2020, respectfully;

o Beginning Thursday, December 10, 2020, low incidence special education and ELL newcomers return for in-person instruction. All other students remain full virtual;
o Approve the return to hybrid instruction once the incidence rate and positivity rate show a decrease for three weeks. In order for students to return to the building, the incidence rate needs to be at or below 80/100,000 and/or the positivity rate needs be below 5%;
o If the above criteria are met, but there is insufficient staff for a return to in-person learning, in-person learning will begin as soon as adequate staffing is achieved.
o Read the full update, including the most recent COVID-19 numbers for Chester County and PASD.

While I know this is not the news many wanted to hear, the number of cases in and around Chester County have risen significantly in the past weeks. With the predicted increase of more community spread over the Thanksgiving holiday, these steps are being taken to protect the health and safety of our entire PASD family. As soon as we meet the criteria for a safe return, we will bring students back into the buildings.

• Dr. Keya Champagne-Lee has been appointed the Principal at the Early Learning Center beginning February 1. As previously announced, Dr. Mwenyewe Dawan will be leaving PASD to accept a position as the Assistant Superintendent in the Wissahickon School District.

• Dr. Khalid Sutton has been appointed the Principal at Barkley Elementary. Dr. Sutton served as the Interim Barkley Principal during the 2019-2020 school year, and we are excited to welcome him back in this permanent role. Dr. Sutton’s start date is still to be determined. Mr. Jeremy Adams will continue as the Interim Principal until that time.
I know you will join me in wishing all of these fine educators the best as they transition into their new roles in PASD.
